We have received several inquiries about residents being able to return to campus and pick up their belongings, so I am providing this update. Initially, the timeline had been for residents to pick up their items by May 1. However, that time will now be extended due to the West Virginia Governor’s “Stay at Home” order that remains in effect. In addition, Jefferson and Berkeley counties are currently under enhanced policies so that no more than 5 people can be in a gathering and Shepherd employees are working from their homes.
Residents’ belongings can continue to remain in the room assignments until the Governor lifts the “Stay at Home” order and Shepherd establishes new dates for residents to pick their belongings. These items will not be donated or disposed of, unless the resident decides to abandon those items, until after the to-be-determined retrieval dates have passed. In that situation, we will email you to try to confirm if it appears to us that you may have decided to abandon items. Leaving the items in the room while residents are off campus will not result in any penalty or bad impact.
We do not know when the times will be scheduled to remove your belongings – we will take guidance from the state about when this can be offered more safely. We will continue to provide updates when we have more information. We understand that this may cause uncertainty, but we want to make sure we are promoting community safety by adhering to WV policies.
Please let me know if I can provide any additional information for you.
