University seeks Visiting Assistant Professor of Music – Director of Choral Activities

Shepherd University, a public liberal arts institution in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music, Director of Choral Activities. This is a temporary position for one calendar year to begin in January 2016, while the current Director of Choral and Vocal Studies is on a one-year leave of absence. The Visiting Assistant Professor will conduct the Shepherd University Chamber Singers, Masterworks Chorale, and Women’s Camerata, and teach choral methods and conducting. Additional responsibilities may include musicianship, music appreciation, music education, or other areas of specialization according to candidate’s qualifications and departmental needs. Participation in recruitment and activities of the Department and the University are expected. Advising is not required.

Located just over an hour from Washington, DC, Shepherd University has a growing reputation for quality arts education in the West Virginia panhandle region, attracting students mostly from West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland. There are approximately 120 music majors. The Mission of the Department of Music is to provide artistic leadership in music performance, teaching, scholarship, and composition for the University, state and artistic community at large, by offering comprehensive undergraduate and graduate degree programs for performers, educators and scholars, and the opportunity to gain valuable cultural experiences leading to the performance, understanding and appreciation of music.
