DATE: August 22, 2020
COVID-19 tests taken on Shepherd University’s campus August 15-19 will have results returned within five days, according to the lab AIT. The test used at Shepherd University was chosen and coordinated by the Jefferson County Health Department. It is one that, according to the CDC, is “typically highly accurate and does not need to be repeated.”
If you do not receive a call from the Shepherd University Health Center OR the Jefferson County Health Department five days following your test, you can be reasonably certain you are negative. However, if you want to know definitively that you are negative, you can call the Shepherd University Health Center at 304/876-5161 or email HealthCenter@rams.shepherd.edu. Please be patient however – the Health Center is extremely busy!

Students who did not get tested on Shepherd’s campus are required to do the following:
- Complete the form Off Campus COVID-19 Testing and upload proof that you have been tested (this can be done by taking a photo of your lab slip or order and upload).
- As soon as you receive your results, you must email those results to firstname.lastname@example.org
WILL I NEED TO BE TESTED BEFORE CLASSES BEGIN?
Yes. All students should be tested before August 24, the first day of classes.
WILL I NEED TO BE TESTED BEFORE I PHYSICALLY MOVE INTO MY RESIDENCE HALL?
Yes. You will need to show verification that you have been tested before you can move into your room.
WHAT IF I TEST POSITIVE?
The Jefferson County Health Department and the Shepherd University Health Center will have your test results. You will be contacted if you are positive and the following will apply:
- If you are a commuter student, you will need to leave campus immediately, contact your primary care physician and email the Health Center at email@example.com. If you would like your faculty to be notified, please email Jake Mellow at firstname.lastname@example.org and an email will be sent to all of your professors to notify them that you may not be in class for a few weeks. It will be your responsibility to try to communicate with your professors to complete missed work. Specific medical information will not be shared.
- If you are a residential student, you will need to return to your room ASAP and call your RA immediately for instructions of next steps.
DAILY HEALTH CHECK:
Students are required to complete the Daily Health Check – Students every day.
