The Department of Sociology, Criminology, and Criminal Justice at Shepherd University has a long and rich tradition of preparing students for employment in academic, governmental, non-profit, and law-enforcement organizations. The department is made up of five full-time faculty who are dedicated to undergraduate teaching excellence and preparing students for success in careers and personal endeavors. We also have a diverse set of adjunct faculty who support the curriculum.
The department is part of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) and offers a B.S. in Sociology, with either a Traditional or Criminal Justice concentration. It also offers minors in Crime and Society, Sociology, and Anthropology. In all cases, students active with the department receive a strong liberal arts education in a small classroom setting that stresses independent, critical thinking through experiential learning.
