Admission and Selection Process
Admission
Admission requirements to the Nutrition program within the School of Recreation, Sport and Exercise Sciences do not exist beyond Shepherd University’s admission requirements, as stated in the University Catalog and through the Office of Admissions.
All prospective students are encouraged to refer to the Catalog and Office of Admissions for further information.
Prior Assessed Learning
Shepherd University will transfer all college-level credits from regionally accredited schools; however, a maximum of 72 credits from community colleges and 90 credits from four-year institutions can be applied towards a degree. At least 30 credit hours must be completed at Shepherd to earn a bachelor’s degree.
Information for Second Career Students in Nutrition
If you already have an undergraduate degree and are interested in pursuing a career in nutrition and dietetics, you can become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered (NDTR)! Review Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Career Changer FAQs page for additional information on each of these credentials and consider applying to the Nutrition Program, an ACEND-accredited didactic program in dietetics, at Shepherd University!
Prospective students may contact an academic counselor through the Office of Admissions where they may submit and have their college transcript(s) evaluated for course equivalency within the Nutrition Program.
Dr. Arnetta Fletcher, PhD, RDN, LDN serves as Director of the ACEND-accredited Nutrition Program. Following admission into the University, students will be assigned an Advisor within the Nutrition program for further evaluation of prior assessed learning and transcript equivalency. Students are encouraged to apply to the Nutrition program through the Office of Admissions as soon as possible for best consideration.
Deadlines
First Time Freshman
For first time freshman or students who have never attended a college or university, deadlines for Fall admission are mid-November of the current year and general admission starts tentatively around August 1 of the subsequent year.
Transfer Students
Applications from transfer students are welcomed each fall, spring, and summer semester. We recommend applying one semester before you plan to start at Shepherd.
Returning Students
Returning students are those who previously attended Shepherd and either took a hiatus from their education or attended another university after their time at Shepherd. Also known as readmitted students. Students in good standing must reapply through the Office of Admissions if they take courses at another institution without prior approval, or who are absent from studies for more than two consecutive regular semesters (not including summer sessions).
