                                         School of Nursing Virtual Tour

Welcome! While 2020-2021 has seen significant challenges, COVID-19 has had us reconstruct our daily routines and discern new ways to interact. Shepherd University School of Nursing accepted those challenges and has seen to them with much resilience. Our talented and committed educators are the driving force behind our students success!

As the 2021-2022 academic year begins, we are thrilled to be celebrating Shepherd’s 150th Year! The October Homecoming will kick off our celebration with events planned for our alumni, students, and community. Please monitor the Shepherd homepage for dates and times to be a part of this great celebration.

We invite our friends and alumni to contribute to the program in recognition of this historic time and in celebration of our accomplishments in contributing to the health and well-being of those to whom we serve. Contributions may be designated for the School at the University Foundation’s website. Our collective efforts can create scholarships to launch our students into nursing and support the nurses returning for their Doctor of Nursing Practice. Providing scholarships for the next generation of “Nurse Heroes” is a great way to pay it forward – we need your support!

We are proud to be celebrating 35 years of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and our sixth year of our Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). Our patient centered BSN curriculum is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skill, and understanding necessary to practice in all areas of professional nursing. In addition, our RN to BSN program offers flexibility to returning nurses wanting to advance their degree: seated with other BSN students or taught totally online. The BSN to DNP and the MSN to DNP curricula are designed to produce Family Nurse Practitioners (FNP) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNP) leaders who embrace health care reform and are advocates for vulnerable populations. In addition to the new PMHNP track for the fall, a Post-Doctoral Certificate program has been implemented for the FNP and PMHNP tracks. We would be thrilled to have you visit as we celebrate new achievements and opportunities.

                                        “Be The Light”

This facility was designed to provide students with the modern tools to meet success for nursing education today.

Spring 2023 Open House Dates

In the interest of keeping everyone safe, the Fall Open House dates will be held virtually. Please check the Admissions page for links for a virtual tour and be sure to check back in the future for in-person opportunities!

The late West Virginia Senator Robert C. Byrd obtained the federal funding to build a state-of-the-art nursing building, named Erma Ora Byrd Hall in honor of Senator Byrd’s late wife. Dedication ceremony of the nursing building at Shepherd University was on June 12, 2007.

The University houses the only state-supported baccalaureate nursing program in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. More than 400 students are enrolled at Shepherd University as nursing or pre-nursing majors. Our graduates have gone on to distinguished careers not only in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, but across the entire state, country, and internationally.
