SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Carl F. Bell Arboretum on West Campus continues to grow. On April 15 students from the biology and environmental studies departments, along with biology faculty, planted seven trees and installed eight bluebird houses.

Trees that were planted as part of an Arbor Day celebration include five redbuds to honor recently retired biology professor Dr. David B. Wing. Installation of the birdhouses was coordinated with expert advice from local members of the Potomac Valley Audubon Society. Word on the street is that bluebirds have already shown up!

The Carl F. Bell Arboretum was established in 2018, thanks to a donation through the Shepherd University Foundation from the late professor and his family. Dr. Carl F. Bell, who retired in 2015 and died in 2017, taught plant biology to undergraduates at Shepherd for 54 years.
