SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program exceeded the national pass rate for the 2024 National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN), a computer-based test that nursing graduates must pass to become licensed as a registered nurse in the United States and Canada.

Shepherd nursing students had a pass rate of 94.37%, well above the state average of 92.78% and national average of 91.16%.

Director of the Shepherd University School of Nursing, Dr. Mary Hancock, said this achievement points to the commitment of students and faculty and the program’s rigor.

“We could not accomplish this without maintaining the high admission, progression, and academic standards we have for our students,” Hancock said. “Everyone is to be commended for their hard work and dedication, particularly when every nursing faculty member has been in teaching overload.”

The NCLEX is the world’s premier licensure exam, utilizing computerized adaptive testing (CAT) technology to deliver the exam and ensure a valid and reliable measurement of nursing competence.
