School of Music to host jazz concert

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s School of Music is hosting a night of Jazz at the Frank Center Theater on Friday, October 29, at 7:30 pm, with the Shepherd Jazz Ensemble and special guest artist, jazz trombonist Dr. Euan Edmonds, a Shepherd University alumnus and adjunct professor.

The ensemble will perform works by Juan Tizol and Duke Ellington, Larry Shay, Mark Fisher and Joe Goodwin, Charles Mingus, David Raskin and Johnny Mercer, Victor Young, Neal Hefti, and Luiz Bonfá.

Edmonds is a professional freelance trombonist currently residing in the Washington, D.C area. He has performed with a wide variety of groups and ensembles such as The Temptations, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, on the national tour of the 2008 revival of the Broadway musical, “The Pajama Game,” and at venues and clubs across the world. Most recently he can be heard on the recordings “Tri-Colored Eyes” by Clark Gibson (2019), “Liminality” by Erik Skov (2019), and “Desafîo Candente” by Gustavo Cortiñas (2021).

The Shepherd University Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Kurtis Adams, has performed throughout the East Coast and Europe, and has been invited as a feature band in jazz festivals around the globe.

General admission to the Shepherd Jazz Ensembles concert is $15 for adults; $10 for Shepherd employees and alumni, senior citizens, and students 18 and under; and free to Shepherd students with a valid Rambler ID.
