School of Music to host April 9 virtual ensembles concert

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s School of Music will present a virtual Shepherd ensembles concert on Friday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. broadcast live on the Shepherd Music YouTube channel. This concert features the Jazz Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Camerata, Chamber Singers, and Ramblers choir. The conductors and students will share information about the music throughout the recorded concert.

The program includes the Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Kurtis Adams, director, School of Music, performing “Tuning Up” by Toshiko Akiyoshi and “Lonely Moments” by Mary Lou Williams.

The Ramblers Gospel and Pop Choir, under the direction of Dr. Rob Tudor, dean, College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, will perform “I Lived” by Ryan Teddler and Noel Zancanella and “Over the Rainbow” by E. Y. Harburg and Harold Arlen, featuring vocal soloists Alexander Strain and Zoey Breakall.

Under the direction of Dr. Rachel Carlson, assistant professor of music, the Chamber Singers will perform “If ye love me” by Thomas Tallis, and the Camerata Soprano/Alto Choir will perform “La Nuit” by Jean-Phillippe Rameau.

The Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Scott Hippensteel, associate professor of music, performs “The Free Lance” by John Philip Sousa.
