Master of Education in Teaching
The Master of Education in Teaching M.Ed. is a 30-credit hour program of study that provides students with an opportunity to explore a variety of topics in education. The M.Ed. does not lead to teaching certification; however, it can be used to give individuals who completed an alternative certification pathway the opportunity to take coursework traditionally required for certification so that they have a strong educational foundation, understand educational theory and research, and have knowledge of special education practices and technology use in education.
As a companion to Shepherd University’s CERT First program, which offers a two-class alternative certification pathway, the degree will provide an opportunity for these students to gain a deeper pedagogical knowledge and skills associated with a more traditional teacher licensure program. CERT First designated courses contribute towards the Master of Education in Teaching degree.
