Daisy Bautista, a junior recreation and leisure studies major from Riverdale, Maryland, and participant in Shepherd University’s TRiO Student Support Services program, was awarded the 2019 Mid-Eastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (MEAEOPP) Scholarship ($1,000) and a 2019 West Virginia TRiO Scholarship ($500). Bautista was awarded these scholarships based on outstanding academic achievement as well as involvement on campus as a student leader and in the community.

The Debate and Forensics Team brought back numerous awards from the 2019 Pi Kappa Delta Biennial National Championship Tournament that took place March 20-24 at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Miranda Jones, a political science major from Huntingtown, Maryland, is the national runner-up in First Year Policy Debate.
