Innovation Committees

Academic Innovation Initiatives

Dr. Chiquita Howard-Bostic, Director of Academic Initiatives, has a plan to use new information, data and best practices that can lead to new modes of learning and instruction. The goal is to strengthen the quality of a Shepherd University education and to enhance our impact on society. These innovations will be both inside and outside the classroom and in the community, from hands-on learning experiences, to social events, and the use of new technologies. This page provides information about the innovation committees.

Social Media Promotion (SMP) Committee

Seeking members in Spring 2020

Shepherd Digital invites faculty, staff, and students to join a new committee. The main charge of the new Social Media Promotion (SMP) Committee is to gather data and provide support in establishing a standardized brand for social media outlets and to include digital assets as part of promotional, recruiting, and fundraising efforts at Shepherd. The committee will create branding guidelines for all academic offices, related university organizations, and partners to follow. The committee will also track various iterations of social media via a survey of current Shepherd University sites to create an (.xls) file to document each use of our brand. Any department, student group, or organization using the platform will request permission to use the branding. The SMP directory will be linked to the Academic Initiatives homepage.

Greek Leadership Committee

Seeking members in Spring 2020

The Greek Leadership committee is tasked to bring two black Greek-letter sororities and fraternities in the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated (NPHC) to the campus of Shepherd University in the next two-four years. These Greek-lettered organizations address the goal of pooling quality resources and enhanced support for the academic success of African-American students enrolled at Shepherd. During the time of their inception and amid racial oppression and segregation, philanthropic and academic Black Greek organizations have assumed the charge of activism, scholarship, social uplift and service. These Greek-letter organizations are known to make a lifetime commitment to continue the legacy of building social capital and upholding  strong ideals of education, integrity, public service and activism. Further, these organizations have a mission of community service, which can link the larger African-American community in surrounding counties to Shepherd programs and services.
