Returning Resident Room Selection 2019-2020
If you applied to live on-campus at Shepherd University for the 2019-2020 year and you currently live on-campus for the 2018-2019 academic year, it is important that you read all information below to fully understand your options regarding how to select your space.
Room Selection Process for returning Residents
- Student completes 2019-2020 housing application and has $100 housing deposit on file
- If the student applies by February 15, 2019, the student may participate in priority online room selection.
- If the student applies after February 15, 2019, the student will participate in late online room selection.
- If the student does not select a room, Residence Life will place the student in a space on campus based on student interests and available spaces.
- Student requests roommates and/or apartment/suite mates.
- All bedroom, suite, and apartment mate requests must be mutual to be considered a complete fill.
- If you are unable to fill a space completely, then Residence Life will place you with a room, suite, or apartment mate.
- All mutually requesting roommates must submit the housing application by February 15, 2019 to participate in priority online room selection. Please note: If you fail to meet this requirement, it is recommended to contact Residence Life to learn what options you have available in your situation.
- Student receives notification of room selection dates and process from Residence Life.

Room Selection Priorities
To participate in Priority Room Selection, continuing students must have a completed application on file and have a $100 Housing Deposit on file (formerly known as a Damage Deposit) by the stated deadlines. Students seeking Gender Inclusive specialty housing options will work directly with the Housing Assignments Coordinator to select their spaces. Residence Life uses the following criteria to determine order for Priority Room Selection:
- Students with Housing Accommodations approved through Disability Support Services
- Students approved for single occupancy rooms who completely fill their requested spaces (based on class rank and housing application date)
- Students approved for single occupancy rooms who partially fill their requested spaces (based on class rank and housing application date)
- Students who completely fill space through roommate requests (based on class rank and housing application date)
- Students who have partially filled spaces (based on class rank and housing application date)
- Class rank is determined in the following order:
- Graduate student
- Senior
- Junior
- Sophomore
- First-Year

Continuing students who submit their completed applications and or/Housing Deposit after the deadlines will participate in later rounds of online room selection beginning on March 20 and continuing throughout the summer.
