Complete and Partial Room Fill
What is a complete room and partial room fill?
Residence Life offers the room selection process in rounds in which students who can fill an entire space are given priority to select their locations. Students who partially fill their rooms are then able to select their spaces so that Residence Life can be certain to have space for everyone. Below, please find definitions and examples of partially and completely filled spaces.
Complete Fill
A complete fill happens when students’ applications are submitted in such a way that all the beds within the room, suite, or apartment will be occupied. Below are some examples (please note that the list is not exhaustive and may not provide all possible examples of a complete fill):
Shaw and Thacher Hall:
- Two (2) people who have mutually requested each other as roommates.
- One (1) person who has an approved single through residence life.
West Woods Complex and Martin Hall:
- Four (4) people who have mutually requested each other as roommates with two (2) people in each bedroom.
- Three (3) people who have mutually requested each other, with two (2) people in one bedroom and one (1) person in the other bedroom with an approved single room.
- Two (2) people who have approved singles through residence life.
Potomac Place 2 person suites:
- Two (2) people who have mutually requested each other as suite-mates. Each person must also have an approved single through Residence Life.

Potomac Place 4 person suites:
- Four people who have mutually requested each other as roommates with two (2) people being in each bedroom.
- Please note: Four person suites in Potomac Place have two bedrooms. Each bedroom must be occupied by 2 students. Students may not “buy out” double occupancy rooms as single rooms in Potomac Place.
Dunlop and Printz Halls 4 person bedrooms (the apartments):
- Four (4) people who have mutually requested each other as roommates with two (2) people in each bedroom.
- Three (3) people who have mutually requested each other with two (2) people in one bedroom and one (1) person in the other bedroom with an approved single room.
- Two (2) people who have approved singles through residence life
Dunlop and Printz Halls 6 person bedrooms (the apartments):
- Six (6) people who have mutually requested each other as roommates with two (2) people in each of the three bedrooms.
- Five (5) people who have mutually requested each other with two (2) people in one bedroom, two (2) people in another bedroom, and one (1) person in the other bedroom with an approved single room.
- Four (4) people who have mutually requested each other with two (2) people in one bedroom, one (1) person in another bedroom with an approved single, and one (1) person in the other bedroom with an approved single room.
- Three (3) people who have approved single bedrooms through residence life.
Partial Fill
A partial fill happens when students’ application are submitted in such a way that all the beds within the room, suite, or apartment will not be occupied. Below are some examples (please note that the list is not exhaustive and may not provide all possible examples of a partial fill):
Shaw and Thacher Hall:
- One (1) person has requested has requested a double occupancy room in Shaw and Thacher.
- Please note: If you do not have a mutually requested roommate for a double occupancy room in Shaw and Thacher, Residence Life will place a roommate with you.
West Woods Complex (Boteler, Lurry, Martin, Moler, Yost) and Miller Hall:
- Three (3) people who have mutually requested each other as roommates with two (2) people in one bedroom and one (1) person in the other bedroom who does not have an approved single.
- Two (2) people who have mutually requested each other to fill one bedroom, but do not have two (2) additional people or one (1) person with an approved single to fill the bedroom.
- One (1) person who has an approved single bedroom through residence life, but does not have (2) additional people or (1) person with an approved single bedroom to fill the other bedroom.
- One (1) person who has selected to live in West Woods and was not approved for a single, but not have one (1) person to fill their direct bedroom and two (2) people or (1) person with an approved single to fill the other bedroom.
Potomac Place 2 person suites:
- One (1) person who has an approved single through Residence Life, but does not have one (1) person to fill the other bedroom.
- Residence Life will fill the other bedroom if the student is unable to fill the suite.

Potomac Place 4 person suites:
- Three (3) people who have mutually requested each other as roommates with two (2) people in one bedroom and one (1) person in the other bedroom.
- Two (2) people who have mutually requested each other to fill one bedroom, but do not have two (2) additional people to fill the other bedroom.
- One (1) person who has selected to live in Potomac Place, but does not have one (1) person to fill their direct bedroom and two (2) people to fill the other bedroom.
- We do not sell Potomac Place 4 person suites and convert the double rooms into single rooms.
Dunlop and Printz Halls 4 person bedrooms (the apartments):
- Three (3) people who have mutually requested each other as roommates with two (2) people in one bedroom and one (1) person in the other bedroom who does not have an approved single.
- Two (2) people who have mutually requested each other to fill one bedroom, but do not have two (2) additional people or one (1) person with an approved single to fill the bedroom.
- One (1) person who has an approved single bedroom through residence life, but does not have (2) additional people or (1) person with an approved single bedroom to fill the other bedroom.
- One (1) person who has selected to live in the Apartments and was not approved for a single, but not have one (1) person to fill their direct bedroom and two (2) people or (1) person with an approved single to fill the other bedroom.
Dunlop and Printz Halls 6 person bedrooms (the apartments):
- Five (5) people who have mutually requested each other as roommates with one (1) bed unoccupied as nobody in the group was approved for a single room.
- Four (4) people who have mutually requested each other as roommates with two (2) beds unoccupied as nobody in the group was approved for a single room.
- Three (3) people who have mutually requested each other as roommates with three (3) beds unoccupied as nobody in the group was approved for a single room.
- Two (2) people who have mutually requested each other and were both approved single rooms, but the third bedroom is not occupied by one (1) person who has an approved single or two (2) people requesting to be roommates.
