Several weeks ago, I shared information with you that the state was considering offering COVID vaccines to college students throughout the state. Recently, I received an email alerting us that the state will NOT be able to offer the vaccine to students as they had hoped. This is due in part because there is still a significant number of individuals 65 and older in West Virginia who have not yet been vaccinated. Additionally, there was no assurance that the vaccine could be administered prior to the end of the semester.
While this is disappointing, the good news is that Gov. Jim Justice announced on Monday that all individuals 16 and older are now eligible to receive the vaccine. This means YOU! Students who are WV residents can sign up in the state’s vaccine system www.vaccine.wv.gov. Out of state students can use your home state’s system. Please let me know if you need help finding this information. You can also find vaccine availability at www.vaccinefinder.org especially as related to supplies available at local chain and independent pharmacies.
As a campus community, we have worked tirelessly to keep our campus safe and open, and it is our full intent to have our campus be as close to normal as possible for Fall 2021! Getting your vaccine is the number one way to help us achieve this!
