Shepherd University chemistry students are highly valued by their peers and by Shepherd faculty members. Awards are given to students each year. Recipients are awarded a cash prize and their names are engraved on a plaque that is displayed on the 3rd floor in Byrd Science Center.
The John Conard Awards
The John Conard Award is given to outstanding students majoring in chemistry.
The John F. Schmidt Award
This award is presented to a student majoring in chemistry. The recipient will have demonstrated significant accomplishment at Shepherd University and potential for contributing to the field in the future. The award was endowed by former students to honor Dr. Schmidt, faculty member in chemistry from 1968 to 2008.
The John Diehl Award
This award is presented to a student majoring in chemistry. The recipient will have demonstrated outstanding achievement in both analytical and biochemistry.
