Residency Requirement

Resident Agreement

The Resident Agreement is a legally binding commitment.
Be sure to read the Resident Agreement carefully when filling out your housing application. Only sign the Resident Agreement if you intent to live on campus for Fall 2023-Spring 2024. There are fewer options to cancel the Agreement after submitting. No need to rush if you are unsure; we accept Housing Applications throughout the school year. Read through the University’s residency requirement for more details.

Living Off Campus

Students who plan to live off campus for the 2023-2024 academic year must (1) meet a qualifying exception criteria and (2) complete the Off-Campus Request on the Good Living Portal.
We urge you to not sign another lease or commitment until you have been notified of off-campus approval or you will have two financial obligations.

Living Requests

The third page of the Housing Application asks for your living preferences. This is where you can indicate a specific hall or living style. Consider the following options:

Single Occupancy Encore Process

Students currently in a single can apply for the Encore process and be guaranteed a single within the same housing community for the Fall 2023-Spring 2024 year, more information available here. Students in a single by default do not qualify for this process.

Housing Communities

  •  Apartment-style: Dunlop & Printz apartments
  • West Woods Suites: Boteler, Lurry, Martin, Moler, Yost
  • Potomac Place suites
  • Traditional-style: Shaw & Thacher Halls
  • This does not guarantee a specific room or building placement
  • More information on Suitemates available here
  • Must apply by Friday, January 13 to be eligible

Single Occupancy General Process

  • Enables a resident to live in a room without a roommate.  The exact location of that single room cannot be guaranteed.
  • Single occupancy room fees are higher than the feeds for double occupancy rooms.  See here for current costs that can be used for estimating purposes.
  • Residence Life plans to offer a limited number of singles across all housing community styles. This is separate from single rooms granted based on an approved Housing accommodation.
  • A waiting list will be developed if more students request singles than are available. Singles will be awarded after Encore Singles have been placed, priority based on class year seniority and date when Housing Application and housing deposit are received.
  • Must apply by Friday, January 13 to be eligible.

Gender Inclusive

  • Available in Potomac Place, West Woods suites, Dunlop Hall, & Printz Hall.
  • Residents must match with enough roommates/ suitemates to completely fill all spaces within suites and apartments.
  • If someone leaves the roommate group, time will be given to re-fill the vacancy. If the vacancy is not filled, re-assignment will be arranged.

Honors Housing

  • As space permits, Honors students may live in Martin Hall, a suite-style building within West Woods. On your Housing Application, be sure to include Honors in your living preferences when prompted. To learn more about this opportunity, please contact Honor or Residence Life.
