Exchange Programs

What are exchange programs? Exchange programs allow American students to study abroad at sister institutions while students from other countries study in the United States. Participating students pay tuition from their home institutions. This means that costs are kept down and in-state financial aid can be used to study abroad.

Shepherd University students can apply to Marshall University and WVU exchange programs. Shepherd students temporarily transfer to Marshall or WVU to take advantage of the exchange program. After studying abroad, Shepherd students return to Shepherd to complete their degrees. Credits earned abroad are transferred back to Shepherd. Since tuition is paid directly to a West Virginia school, in-state financial aid, such as the PROMISE Scholarship, can be used to study abroad.

West Virginia University

International Student Exchange Programs (ISEP)
Shepherd is a member of the ISEP West Virginia Consortium, with WVU serving as lead institutions. The consortium agreement allows our students to participate in ISEP Exchange and the ISEP Direct Programs. Exchange programs allow students to pay WVU room, board, tuition and fees. Students may use their PROMISE scholarships on the Exchange Programs. Check out WVU's listing of ISEP Exchange Programs by country. ISEP Direct provides the opportunity to pay a fee to study directly at a host institution. Both ISEP Exchange and ISEP direct programs are fairly low cost programs and are best for students who are independent and want to have a total immersion experience with very few ISEP students at the same institution.

ISEP programs are available to: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ghana, Hungary, Iceland, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, United Kingdom, and Uruguay. Some programs have limited availability and not all programs are available at all times.

Amizade Global Service-Learning Consortium
Through an academic partnership with WVU, students may participate in exciting and innovative service-learning programs for educational credit. The programs integrate focused academic coursework, meaningful cross-cultural service, and short-term study abroad in communities in 11 different countries around the world.
