Exchange Programs What are exchange programs? Exchange programs allow American students to study abroad at sister institutions while students from other countries study in the United States. Participating students pay tuition from their home institutions. This means that costs are kept down and in-state financial aid can be used to study abroad. Shepherd University students can apply to Marshall University and WVU exchange programs. Shepherd students temporarily transfer to Marshall or WVU to take advantage of the exchange program. After studying abroad, Shepherd students return to Shepherd to complete their degrees. Credits earned abroad are transferred back to Shepherd. Since tuition is paid directly to a West Virginia school, in-state financial aid, such as the PROMISE Scholarship, can be used to study abroad.
