Shepherdstown, WV--The Shepherd University Program Board will hold Shepfest from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 on the practice field behind the Butcher Center. This year's theme, Carnival of Music, is a community event for all ages with music, games, and food.
There will be a kid's corner until 3 p.m. featuring sandy candy land, where children can make jewelry and bottle art out of powdered candy. Other events will include face painting, old time photos, photo buttons, and six inflatable games including a rock climbing wall, sumo wrestling, and jousting. Several organizations will have activities and booths that will add to the carnival atmosphere.
The emcee, Eddie Ifft, has appeared on NBC's "Last Comic Standing II" and has performed stand up with Dave Chapelle, Kevin Nealon, Chris Rock, and Robin Williams. The music will be a mix of local talent and indie acts.
Local talent will include Shepherd students Matt Bailey, Jayme Salviati, Luther Jones, and Jam the Radar, a band made up of Shepherd faculty and staff. Formed in late 2000, Jam the Radar plays rock standards including covers of Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Nirvana, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The band also plays original compositions, lyrics dealing with inspiration, vengence, loss, and redemption are skillfully integrated with rhythm-based guitar driven music.
Other music acts include Syd, a Boston-based singer/songwriter whose music features poetic lyrics, thrilling guitarwork, and a rich overall sound; a native of Baltimore, indie act Mary Prankster features music described by the Washington Times as, "girls-gone-wild-with-guitars style of naughty rock;" and Filomath, a New York based snyth-punk foursome, that has spent years playing the college circuit. One of their songs was featured at the 2004 MTV Movie Awards.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Program Board at 304/876-5326.
