(Shepherd's West Virginia New Writers Competition deadline approaching)
Shepherdstown, WV--The deadline for Shepherd University's West Virginia New Writers Competition is approaching. Any original, unpublished work of fiction from a novice writer age 14-40 will be accepted by the Sunday, May 1 deadline. Submissions should be between 500-2,500 words and accompanied with the application form.
A $500 first prize will be awarded to the winner of the competition and second and third place winners will receive awards as well. West Virginia storyteller and fiction writer Jayne Ann Phillips, the 2005 Shepherd University Appalachian Heritage writer in residence, will make the final selection of winning stories. All finalists entering the competition will receive detailed critiques of their work by Phillips, while the first, second, and third-place winners will meet and dine with Phillips the evening their prizes are awarded at the Appalachian Heritage Festival Concert at Shepherd University on Friday, September 30.
