(Shepherd's Rude Mechanicals to present two April productions)
Shepherdstown, WV--The Shepherd University Rude Mechanicals Medieval and Renaissance Players will present two productions in April.
All the World's a Bar: Tavern Scenes from Medieval and Renaissance Drama will be staged Thursday, April 7 at 9 p.m.; Saturday, April 9 at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, April 10 at 2 p.m. All the World's a Bar is a selection of scenes from a 15th-century play about Mary Magdalene and from Shakespeare's Henry IV, featuring one of Shakespeare's most famous comic characters, Falstaff.
Ordo Virtutum (Order of the Virtues), which will also include instrumental accompaniment, will be presented Thursday, April 14 at 9 p.m.; Friday, April 15 at 9 p.m.; and Saturday, April 16 at 8 p.m. Ordo Virtutum is a morality play written by Hildegard von Bingen, a 12th-century German nun. In the play, the soul is tempted by the Devil into a life of sin from which the soul is later redeemed by the virtues. Most of the text is chanted in Ecclesiastical Latin, with super titles above the stage translated into English.
Tickets are $5 for general admission and $2 for students. All performances will be held at Reynolds Hall. For reservations or more information, contact Betty Ellzey at 304/876-5208 or bellzey@shepherd.edu.
