Shepherdstown, WV--The Shepherd University jazz program will present Grammy-nominated jazz trombonist Conrad Herwig Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5 at 8 p.m. in the Frank Center Theater as part of the West Virginia Eastern Regional Jazz Festival.

Herwig began his professional career in 1980 with the Clark Terry Big Band and later joined the Buddy Rich Orchestra for tours of the U.S. and Europe. He has performed with Slide Hampton's World of Trombones and Mario Bauza's Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra, as well as with the orchestras of Mel Lewis, Bob Minter, Henry Threadgill, Miles Davis, Quincy Jones, and Frank Sinatra.

The jazz festival begins Friday night with a free "Meet the Artist" session at 6 p.m. in the recital hall in room M08 in the Frank Center followed by the concert at 8 p.m. in the theater. Saturday the Frank Center will host regional middle and high school bands followed by a free jazz clinic at 6 p.m. in M08 followed by the concert at 8 p.m.

The Shepherd University Jazz Ensemble has been invited to jazz festivals around the world including the Blue Ridge Jazz Festival, the East Coast Jazz Festival, and the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Concert tickets are $10 for general admission and free to students and MAC cardholders. Admission to the workshop is free of charge.
