(Shepherd's Dining Services wins national award)
Shepherdstown, WV--The Shepherd University Dining Services has received the 2005 Bronze Award in the residence hall theme dinner category of the Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards contest from the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS).
The Taste of West Virginia meal, served on March 8 to Shepherd students, won the award. The dinner was a tribute to the culture and cuisine of West Virginia featuring recipes and displays from the eight geographic regions of the state. The Speakeasy Boys and the Jefferson County 4-H Dancing Clovers performed at the meal and the Appalachian studies class assisted with decorations for the event.
Dining Services will receive its award at the NACUFS national conference in New Orleans in July. This is the second year Dining Services has participated in the event and the first national award it received. Shepherd competed in the "Small School" category against schools with enrollment of less than 7,000 and managed sales volume of less than $7 million.
NACUFS is the trade association for food service professionals at nearly 650 institutions of higher education in the United States, Canada, and abroad. Shepherd University Dining Services has an annual managed sales volume of approximately $3.1 million. It employs 65 full-time, part-time, and student associates and serves approximately 1,000 on-campus residential students as well as faculty, staff, and university guests.
