Two schools hold blue ribbon status as well.

Arvon graduated from Shepherd in 1974 with a B.A. in education. He earned an M.A. in education administration from West Virginia University in 1979.

The American Association of School Administrators (AASA) elected Arvon to the first-ever National Board of Governors. He is in his fourth year serving another national appointment as a board member for the Appalachian Educational Laboratories (AEL) as well as serving as the West Virginia Caucus chair. On a regional level he is the past president of the WVAASA as well as a RESA VIII board member and a council member of James Rumsey Technical Institute.
