Shepherdstown, WV--Shepherd University's Department of Music will present Johann Strauss's comic operetta "Die Fledermaus" (The Bat) on Saturday, February 2 at 8 p.m.; Sunday, February 3 at 3 p.m.; and Friday, February 8 and Saturday, February 9 at 8 p.m. in the Frank Center. The last full-length opera to be performed at Shepherd was Henry Purcell's "Dido and Aeneas" in 2002.

Dr. Rob Tudor, director of vocal activities and department chair, will lead the comic operetta as stage and music director. Tudor has directed both opera and musical theater for 15 years.

"This operetta is perfect for this time of year. It is performed traditionally in the winter because it's such a bright and uplifting production. 'Die Fledermaus' offers lively waltzes, festive dancing, grand pranks, beautiful costumes, and mistaken identities in a way that the whole family will enjoy during the interior months," said Tudor.

Admission and seating for "Die Fledermaus" is on a first-come, first-served basis. The box office will open one hour prior to each performance. General admission is $15; $10 for faculty, staff, Shepherd alumni, senior citizens, and students 18 and under; and free for Shepherd students with Rambler ID and Friends of Music Gold and Silver MAC Cardholders.
