Shepherdstown, WV--Shepherd University's Friends of Music will hold its Friends Fellows Benefit Recital on Saturday, April 6 at 4 p.m. in the Walker Horton Shipley Recital Hall located in the Frank Center. The recital will feature eight Shepherd student recipients of the Friends of Music Fellowships. The recital is free and open to the public; donations are suggested.

The 2012-13 Friends Fellows were awarded scholarships from the Friends of Music to assist with their studies in Shepherd's Department of Music. The Fellows are Jorge Alvarez-Marron, Nathan Arch, Tyler Arnold, Allyson Bayer, Alana Gondeck, Ian Karraker, Justin Loizos, Christina Oliver, and Eduardo Rivera. They will perform a combination of solo and chamber repertoire, including works by Abe, Debussy, Faurč, Ewazen, Mozart, Vivaldi, and student compositions by Justin Loizos and Ian Karraker.

"The fellows recital is a wonderful opportunity for the community to hear the achievements of Shepherd University's Department of Music Students. Moreover, it is a celebration and chance to thank the supporters of the community and FOM for the fellowships. In addition to showcasing the solo performances, we have created many chamber music settings among the Fellows. We are very fortunate to have a commissioned piece from our student composer that will conclude our fellows showcase and feature all instruments and voices of this year's Fellows. We hope the community will join us for this special event," said Dr. Yu-Hsuan Liao, recital coordinator and director of keyboard studies at Shepherd.

The Friends of Music is a (501c3) non-profit organization that supports and promotes music excellence at Shepherd University and throughout the region.
