Shepherd named Global Youth Service Day Campus
ISSUED: 13 April 2012
Shepherdstown, WV--Shepherd University was named a 2012 Global Youth Service Day Campus. Awarded by the West Virginia Campus Compact, the distinction includes a $400 mini-grant, funded by the Youth Service America and State Farm.
Global Youth Service Day is an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes millions of youth who improve their communities through service and service-learning.
Shepherd will use the mini-grant to implement an important service project during Global Youth Service Day Weekend on April 20-22. The Office of Community Service and Service Learning has partnered with the Shepherdstown Community Club and has planned a park clean-up day at Morgan's Grove Park on Saturday, April 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Student volunteers will work with younger youth to take on several projects in the park.
"Our office is excited to strengthen our partnership with the Shepherdstown Community Club to bring the campus and community together for a worthwhile project," said Rachel Crum, AmeriCorps VISTA community service coordinator.
