Shepherd University's Masterworks Chorale announces auditions August 27

Shepherdstown, WV--Shepherd University's Masterworks Chorale, the Eastern Panhandle's premiere vocal ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Erik Reid Jones, will be holding auditions for the 2012-2013 season on Monday, August 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the rehearsal hall at the Frank Center. Auditions are open to everyone and consist of vocal exercises. Singers are not required to prepare a piece in advance.
The vocal ensemble, comprised of Shepherd vocal students and members from the surrounding community, presents two full-length concerts per year of great masterpieces from the choral literature as well as appearances at the Annual Holiday Gala and Family Concert.
The Masterworks Chorale meets Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Frank Center rehearsal hall. The first concert of the season will feature Schubert's "Mass in G" and the Faure "Requiem." These two works will be performed with a full orchestra and guest soloists on Saturday, November 10 at 8 p.m. in St. James Catholic Church in Charles Town, and Sunday, November 11 at 7 p.m. at the Frank Center Theater.
The chorale will appear at the Annual Holiday Gala Concert at the Frank Center on Saturday, December 1 at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday, December 2 at 3 p.m. On Saturday, April 13 at 8 p.m. the chorale will perform Mozart's "Mass in C Minor" with a full orchestra and guest soloists at St. James Catholic Church in Charles Town, as well as on Sunday, April 14 at 7 p.m. at the Frank Center Theater as part of the Friends of Music Concert Series.
Jones, director of choral and vocal activities at Shepherd and founder and artistic director of the Master Singers of Virginia, received his bachelor of music degree in vocal music education at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, master of music degree in choral conducting at the University of Cincinnati, and doctoral degree in choral conducting at the University of Maryland at College Park. Jones has taught at Shenandoah Conservatory, Harford Community College, and the University of Maryland. He is a published author and avid choral composer, with more than 20 works to his credit.
