Percussion and Drumming Festival at Shepherd November 5 ISSUED: 24 October 2011 Shepherdstown, WV--The Shepherd University Department of Music will present a free Percussion and Drumming Festival on Saturday, November 5 from noon to 3:30 p.m. in the Frank Center. The instructional clinics are geared toward percussionists and drummers of all ages, including professionals, students, and enthusiasts. The event is free and open to the public. The Percussion and Drumming Festival will feature Dream Cymbals clinician Wes Crawford, who will perform a variety of solo and play-along pieces on drumset and break down the concepts and parts for each. Topics covered include improvising over ostinatos, note displacement, polyrhythm development, drum and bass techniques, and Hip Hop and Be Bop. Sergeant Major William H. Messerschmidt will present Traditional Rudimental Drumming and its Relevance for Today. The Shepherd Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Michelle Humphreys, will present a performance featuring works by Ney Rosauro, Emmanuel Sejourne, Paul Bissell, and Michael Culligan.
