Shepherdstown, WV--In an ongoing commitment by Shepherd University to provide lifelong learning opportunities and access to community members, Dr. Joseph W. Robbins, assistant professor of political science, has been appointed as the program coordinator for adult and online education.

Robbins received his Ph.D. in political science from Texas Tech University, and both his M.A. and B.A. from Eastern Illinois University. Robbins specializes in comparative politics with a regional emphasis on East Europe. His research examines political institutions, voter turnout, policymaking, and terrorism. His work has been published in journals including Comparative Politics, Comparative Political Studies, Electoral Studies, Europe-Asia Studies, and Party Politics. Robbins joined Shepherd's faculty in August 2009 and has been a graduate faculty member since August 2010. His primary teaching interests include comparative, international relations, and American government courses.

Robbins is working to expand Shepherd's offerings in both online educational courses, as well as courses in the graduate program. Shepherd is developing a series of financial planning workshops in conjunction with United Bank that will be open to community members. Additionally, the continuing education area has a number of online offerings in financial accounting, finance, business math, economics, and ethics.
