(Shepherd Commuter Life presents speech and book signing by Mildred D. Muhammad October 27)

Shepherdstown, WV--The Shepherd University Commuter Life will host domestic violence survivor Mildred D. Muhammad on Wednesday, October 27 at noon in the Student Center Storer Ballroom.

Muhammad is the former wife of John Allen Muhammad, the convicted and now executed D.C. sniper who terrorized the Washington, D.C., metro region in late 2002. After several years of silence, Muhammad now speaks openly about her day-to-day experiences as a survivor of domestic violence and how it affected her three children. Muhammad has become a spokesperson for domestic violence and has been honored as being the keynote speaker for many conferences regarding domestic violence. She speaks to victims and survivors of domestic violence, law enforcements, advocates, judges, therapists, counselors, military facilities, medical professionals, and various universities. Muhammad is a consultant for the Office for Victims of Crime and is a board member of different domestic violence organizations.

Muhammad has appeared on Larry King Live and Good Morning America with Charlie Gibson, and has been featured in a CNN documentary, Court TV documentary, and Investigation Discovery documentary. She has been interviewed by various newspapers and magazines, including the Washington Post and Newsweek. Muhammad released her book "Scared Silent" in October 2009 and is now working on a "A Survivor's Journal" for victims and survivors. She is currently attending Everest University and will receive her degree in criminal justice this year.

Tickets for the event are free for Shepherd students with a Rambler ID, $5 for faculty and staff, and $10 for general admission. Books will be available at the program and book signing by the Shepherd University Bookstore.
