Shepherd geo-history presentation rescheduled ISSUED: 12 February 2010 Shepherdstown, WV--The Shepherd University School of Business and Social Sciences and the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics are sponsoring a lecture by Dr. William Theriault on his work titled "Geo-History Project of Jefferson County," at the Robert C. Byrd Center for Legislative Studies at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9. Theriault, who works closely with the Historic Landmarks Commission and the Harpers Ferry Historical Association, will illustrate the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technologies to historic source materials, such as old plat maps, surveyor notes, and manuscript census returns, a pioneering means of digitally preserving and mapping the county's history. "Students and faculty in history and historic preservation, environmental studies, and geography may find this particularly interesting for its high-tech approach to traditional methods," said Dr. Ann Legreid, dean of the School of Business and Social Sciences. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Dr. Legreid at 304-876-5011. -30-KESNER |
