(Additional Black History Month events announced)

Shepherdstown, WV--Events continue on campus as Shepherd University celebrates Black History Month.

On Friday, February 12, the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, in partnership with the Shepherdstown Film Society, will be sponsoring a viewing of the film "Daughters of the Dust."

The film, which will be viewed in Reynolds Hall at 7 p.m., focuses on generational gaps within a black family who live in the South.

Dining Services will be hosting a Soul Food dinner on Wednesday, February 17 in the Dining Hall, starting at 4:30 p.m. From 5-6 p.m., the Washington, D.C., based group, Sul Da Bahia Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian dance group, will perform.

A screening of the Chris Rock film "Good Hair" will be presented on Tuesday, February 23 at 7 p.m. in the Cumberland Room, located in the Student Center.

Organizers for the event said that they feel the film is important because it brings awareness of a basic difference in black culture, that of the difference between "good hair" and "bad hair."

Christana Johnson, director of the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, said that the film was a limited release when it premiered.

"We're excited to have it on campus," Johnson said.
