Shepherdstown, WV--The Shepherd University Preparatory Orchestra will hold auditions for the eleventh season on Wednesday, September 2, at 6 p.m. for senior orchestra members and Wednesday, September 9, at 6 p.m. for junior string orchestra members at the Frank Center Theater.

Positions are open in all string sections in the junior and senior youth orchestras. Students auditioning for the junior youth orchestra are asked to prepare a solo and scale of their choice to perform at the audition and should be able to sight-read music at beginner to early intermediate level. Students auditioning for the senior youth orchestra are asked to prepare a solo of their choice and will be asked to play scales and sight-read. Those wishing to audition for the senior youth orchestra first or second violin section should arrive to warm-up and sign-up for a time slot by 6 p.m. Auditions will run from 6 -7:30 p.m. Viola, cello, and bass section members should arrive to audition between 7:30-9 p.m. Junior string orchestra members will audition from 6:30-8 p.m. on September 9. Students will perform their audition on a first-come, first-served basis during the scheduled audition times. Rehearsals for both ensembles begin Wednesday, September 16. The junior string orchestra meets from 6:15-7:15 p.m. and the senior orchestra meets from 7:30-9 p.m. Complete rehearsal and concert schedules will be available the night of auditions.

The Shepherd University Preparatory Orchestra is beginning its eleventh season at Shepherd and meets Wednesday evenings for rehearsals throughout the school year. Concerts will be presented on January 13 and May 5, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. in the Frank Center Theater. The orchestra is made up of student members from Maryland and West Virginia, as well as students from Shepherd University. The tuition fee for the youth orchestra is $125 per semester and will include two free family member admissions to each concert. The orchestras are under the direction of Heather Austin-Stone, junior string orchestra, and Dr. Mark McCoy, senior orchestra.
