Shepherdstown, WV--Shepherd University's Multicultural Leadership Team will participate in the Martin Luther King Day On Not a Day Off community service project on January 19. The two dozen team members are volunteering to clean classrooms at Ranson Elementary School on the Martin Luther King Day holiday.

Members of the Shepherd Multicultural Leadership Team are students who are committed to enhancing cultural diversity and improving race relations locally, nationally, and internationally. Members of the team participate in a multicultural leadership development program that equips, challenges, and empowers them to demonstrate their commitment to cultural and racial diversity by helping to prepare others to live, learn, work, and succeed in a pluralistic society. The team is led by Christana Johnson, director of multicultural student services.

For the last six years, Shepherd students have volunteered to work on the Martin Luther King Day holiday on local community service projects at North Jefferson Elementary School, Harpers Ferry Job Corps, and Habitat for Humanity. The Day On Not a Day Off project is organized by Holly Morgan Frye, director of student community services at Shepherd.
