Artist and Shepherd professor exhibits work at Bridge Gallery ISSUED: 2 October 2009 Shepherdstown, WV--Sonya Evanisko, professor of art and coordinator of the painting and drawing program at Shepherd University, will be exhibiting highlights of her body of artwork titled "Strangely Beautiful" that she created during her sabbatical. The exhibition of mixed media paintings/collages will be on display from October 8 to November 8 in the Bridge Gallery on 8566 Shepherdstown Pike, Shepherdstown. There will be a reception with Evanisko on Thursday, October 8 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the gallery. Through mixed media paintings/collages, Evanisko examines in her work the question what good is our obsession with acquiring in the aftermath of disaster or desire, and what do we make of the overwhelming heap of haphazardly discarded goods. Painted tornados or lines that echo the quickly disappearing red coral of our natural environment are juxtaposed with consumer goods within Evanisko's work. For more information about the exhibition and gallery times, call the Bridge Gallery at 304-876-2300 or visit www.bridgegalleryandframing.com. -30-YOUNG |
