Shepherd University music service organization for women honored ISSUED: 4 August 2009 Shepherdstown, WV--The Shepherd University Chapter (Eta Tau) of Sigma Alpha Iota, the national professional music service organization for women, has been awarded the highest honor of the National Collegiate Chapter Achievement Award for 2009. The award was presented at the 45th National Convention of SAI in Chicago, Illinois. Eta Tau has served Shepherd, the music department, and community by giving over $1,000 in prep scholarships to local students; presenting a freshmen woman's music scholarship; organizing and executing the Region 8 Solo and Ensemble Festival; writing notes to troops serving in Iraq and patients in our local Nursing Home; ushering all concerts for the music department; giving over $2,000 to SAI Philanthropies Inc.; presenting the first Eta Tau Women In Music Recital; having three teams in Shepherd's Relay For Life that were able to raise over $5,000; and writing and receiving a $3,000 grant for the music department to provide free concert tickets to music majors. -30-YOUNG |
