Shepherd University receives the gift of lighting from Shepherd family ISSUED: 8 August 2008 Shepherdstown, WV--The Shepherd University Foundation announces the gift of solar lighting from Thomas R. Shepherd and family of Stow, Massachusetts, in memory of Henry Shepherd, long-time resident of Shepherdstown and Thomas Shepherd's brother. The lights, valued at $25,000, were provided through the Fieldstone Foundation and recently installed on Shepherd's West Campus. The lights are produced by SolarOne Solutions of Framingham, Massachusetts. Similar lights have been installed on several university campuses and include grid-independent operating, energy efficient LED light source, state-of-the-art SO-Bright controls, and carbon-free operating to offset an estimated 1.4 tons of greenhouse gasses per year. Thomas and his wife, Nancy, and their four children wanted Henry to be remembered for his devotion to Shepherdstown and the University. Henry Shepherd died July 4, 2007 at his Shepherdstown home. -30-YOUNG |
