Shepherdstown, WV--More than 200 guests attended a special welcome reception for new Shepherd University President Suzanne Shipley at the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown, July 26. The event was sponsored by Jefferson Security Bank, the Shepherd University Foundation, and the Shepherd University Alumni Association.

The invited guests included representatives from the university staff, area businesses, community organizations, and Shepherd alumni and friends. Toasts were raised to President Shipley by Ray Alvarez, president of the Shepherd University Foundation, Larry Strite, president of the Shepherd Alumni Association, and Steve Morris, president and CEO of Jefferson Security Bank.

Steve Morris stated, "I am told that the unofficial motto of Shepherd is that 'Shepherd Students Succeed.' Nowhere is that more evident than at Jefferson Security Bank where one-third of our Board of Directors are graduates of Shepherd. Three of our four top executive officers are graduates and 31 of our associates are either graduates or students of Shepherd University. Shepherd University truly is a gem on the Potomac."

President Shipley thanked the guests for their warm reception. "I feel right at home here. It's like coming back to a large family. I look forward to working with you and making this a wonderful adventure for all of us."

Shipley is the 15th president of Shepherd University. She will be inaugurated October 26.
