Shepherd education students to hold benefit Jamaican dinner Nov. 2 ISSUED: 18 October 2007 Shepherdstown, WV--Shepherd University education students will hold a Jamaican dinner in the Dining Hall, lower level, on Friday, November 2 from 5-7 p.m. to raise money for their teaching practicum in Jamaica. The menu will consist of mini crab cakes with curry aoili, shrimp stir-fry, jerk chicken, pan-seared white fish with fresh herbs and traditional seasoning, red beans and rice, grilled veggie skewers with balsamic vinaigrette, and Jamaican fruit cake and mango/coconut bread pudding with vanilla rum sauce for dessert. The students will visit Montego Bay, Mandeville, and Negril in January. Students will get the opportunity to collaborate with Jamaican teachers and students on different teaching styles and strategies. They will live on the campus of Knox Community College in Jamaica, and be introduced to the culture, economics, history, geography, politics, and education of the country. The cost of the dinner is $20 and tickets will also be available at the door. For more information and directions, contact sferre01@shepherd.edu.
