Shepherdstown, WV--The sixth annual Scarborough Society Gala, held August 17 at the Bavarian Inn, Shepherdstown, raised $17,100 to support the activities of the Shepherd University Scarborough Library. Close to 250 invited guests attended the black-tie event. The theme for this year was "In the Garden," based on a trilogy by best-selling author Nora Roberts. The presenting sponsors for the event were BB&T Wealth Management, represented by Rod and Lynn Frye, and Jefferson Security Bank, represented by Steve and Kathy Morris. "We are proud to have supported the gala for the past six years," said Rod Frye, senior vice president for BB&T's Eastern Panhandle Wealth Management Group. "The mission of Shepherd University, as supported by its great library, is rapidly expanding to meet the academic needs of the Eastern Panhandle's dynamic environment." "We are happy to support Shepherd University in this very successful event that brings together Scarborough Library supporters," said Steve Morris, president and CEO of Jefferson Security Bank in Shepherdstown. "We look forward to the society's continued success." Ray Alvarez, Scarborough Society president, lauded the event for its success in raising funds as well as its significance in increasing community awareness of the Society's existence and purpose. Members receive special library cards and privileges and are placed on invitation lists for library lectures, book signings, musical events, seminars, and receptions.
