Shepherd Scarborough Society to host lecture ISSUED: 3 April 2007 Shepherdstown, WV--The Shepherd University Scarborough Society Art and Lecture series will present "The Compleat Anthologist: Developing College Textbooks in the 21st Century," a lecture by Dr. Michael Austin, dean of graduate studies at Shepherd, on Wednesday, April 25 at 7 p.m. in the Scarborough Library Reading Room. Dr. Austin will focus on his experiences in publishing his textbook, Reading the World: Ideas that Matter (W.W. Norton and Co.) in a discussion of the development of college textbooks and how contemporary technology, especially the Internet, changes the way we conceive of the job of textbook author. The 160-member Scarborough Society, sponsored by the Shepherd University Foundation, was chartered in the spring of 2002 as a friends of the library organization to support and strengthen the Shepherd University library system. In addition to increasing the bound collections, funds raised by the society assist in acquiring, maintaining, and updating the technology necessary to operate a 21st-century library and provide a scholarship for a student library intern. -30-HORST |
