Shepherd University to present Faculty Research Forum November 9 ISSUED: 12 October 2006 Shepherdstown, WV--Dr. Keith D. Alexander, visiting assistant professor of environmental studies at Shepherd University, will present "Old Buildings, New Visions: Environmental Sustainability and Historic Preservation" on Thursday, November 9 at 7 p.m. in the Robert C. Byrd Center for Legislative Studies Auditorium. Alexander's presentation, which is part of Shepherd's Faculty Research Forum, will explore the areas of overlap between environmental sustainability and historic preservation. It will emphasize historic preservation's potential contributions to efforts in recycling and waste reduction, energy efficiency, and endangered species protection. The presentation will feature examples of cooperation between advocates of historic preservation and proponents of environmental conservation. This cooperation is producing new vision for old buildings and historic communities across the United States. Some of these visions may be of particular interest to residents of the Eastern Panhandle, where rapid growth is increasingly affecting the region's rich architectural heritage and its rural historical landscape. The talk is free and open to the public. For more information, visit the Faculty Research Forum Web site, www.shepherd.edu/aaweb/frf, or contact Keith Alexander at 304/876-5053 or kalexand@shepherd.edu. -30-DAVIDSON |
