FROM THE PRESIDENT April 20, 2009
In this issue, our student community services program is profiled. Shepherd was just named to the national President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, one of 635 colleges and universities nationwide receiving this honor. We are pleased to be included on this list. Our student volunteer program is headed by Holly Morgan Frye, whose hard work and superb organizational skills piloted Shepherd to a place on this year's Honor Roll. She pairs nonprofit agencies in need of volunteers with our enthusiastic students, resulting in more than 21,000 volunteer hours annually in aid and support to the community. We are proud of Shepherd's student volunteers whose participation in such activities as Relay for Life, A Day On Not a Day Off in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, and Alternative Spring Break propelled Shepherd's volunteer activities to national recognition. When learning at Shepherd takes place inside and outside the classroom, our students are not the only ones to benefit. Their service, like their professional talent, can provide an enormously positive impact on this community that gives us so much. Together, we can and do make a difference.
