FROM THE PRESIDENT February 21, 2008 Safety on Campus To the Campus Community, In the wake of the shooting last week at Northern Illinois University, I would like to remind the Shepherd University community of our emergency response protocol. In an emergency situation, a text message will be sent and a notice will be posted on the Shepherd home page, http://www.shepherd.edu. If you have not signed up for the Rave text-messaging system, please do so, http://www.shepherd.edu/university/rave/. The Shepherd home page will serve as the main source for up-to-the-minute information as a situation progresses. An emergency sheet is being developed with the three steps for reporting campus emergencies. The information is available at http://www.shepherd.edu/emergency/123. Cards designed to be posted on desks and near phones will be distributed on campus in the next few weeks. Shepherd University makes every effort to keep our campus community safe. I urge you to be vigilant; do not hesitate to report any suspicious behavior to the campus Police Department at 876-5202. For emergencies, call 911 (using campus phones dial 9-911). Please keep in mind the following: Shepherd University police officers are patrolling the campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Residence halls are secure 24 hours a day. Residence hall access is controlled by Rambler Card or key and is limited to students who live in the hall and their escorted guests. Shepherd has 17 emergency call boxes with blue lights located throughout campus. These phones provide a direct line to the Shepherd University Police Department. For information about call box locations and directions for using the boxes, go to http://www.shepherd.edu/emergency/. You will find a variety of information and links on this emergency page (the link is on the Shepherd home page, too). With your help, we can work together toward a safe campus.
