SHEPHERD FOOTBALL 2005: HISTORY IN THE MAKING
On the 50th anniversary of Shepherd's only previous undefeated football season, the Rams repeated history this year. Shepherd defeated West Virginia State 51-10 at Ram Stadium on November 5 to finish the regular season 11-0. Shepherd University had the top seeding in the Northeast Region of the NCAA Division II Football Playoffs, but lost to C.W. Post 28-21 on November 19. Head coach Monte Cater also became the winningest coach in WVIAC history this season, and two players, Dervon Wallace and Dan Peters, set new marks in scoring and interceptions, respectively. 
Cater Winningest Coach in WVIAC History
Shepherd football coach Monte Cater became the all-time winningest coach in WVIAC history with his 126th win on Saturday, October 15 over Concord University.
As of press time, he has won three more games and is now 129-67-1 since coming to Shepherd in 1987. In 19 seasons, Cater has also won outright or shared nine WVIAC championships. Coach Cater was also named WVIAC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year and for a record seventh time.
