A New Initiative to Centralize Retention Efforts: Mention it for Retention One of the first outreach programs my office will be sponsoring is the "Mention it for Retention" program. Shepherd University community members will have the opportunity to submit a form (available online as well as in paper format) to the Retention Office when and if they have concerns about particular students. The Retention Office will then, depending on the situation and the requests of the person submitting the form, act to refer the student to the appropriate resources, contact others to provide assistance to the student, or simply keep the student's name for informational purpose for the time being. This is our first major effort to centralize some of the many retention efforts that occur on campus on a regular basis. In this manner, we also hope to be able to provide timely and effective services to at-risk students. This program will be highlighted, along with other new retention initiatives that are being sponsored by other departments. The first "Retention Matters" newsletter is slated to be available electronically by the time classes start in August. |
