Definition of Academic Year for Financial Aid Purposes

In the past any financial aid program that was based upon the student's grade level was awarded based on the Registrar's classification, as opposed to the Office of Financial Aid definition. This is no longer an option.

Due to the requirement that the ACG and SMART grants be awarded in accordance with the Office of Financial Aid definition, some students can conceivably be considered one grade level for the grant and another for a loan in 2006-2007. The definition of academic year for financial aid purposes for undergraduate students is as follows:

Students earning 29 credit hours or less shall be classified as first year.
Students earning 30-59 credit hours shall be classified as second year.
Students earning 60-89 credit hours shall be classified as third year.
Students earning 90-128 credit hours shall be classified as fourth year.
Students earning more than 128 credit hours shall be classified as fifth year.

Beginning with the 2007-2008 financial aid year, all financial aid will be awarded using this definition.
