FAFSA Requirement for Scholarships Eliminated

In the past, students have been required to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year to be considered for institutional scholarships. The purpose of this requirement was to ensure that students applied for the maximum amount of financial aid for which they may be eligible. Several scholarships also require that the students demonstrate a financial need, which can only be determined by the completion of the FAFSA.

Beginning with the 2007-2008 award year, students will no longer be required to complete a FAFSA to be considered for a scholarship. However, if the student must have a financial need per the donor's criteria, they will not be eligible to receive the scholarship. Students who do not submit a FAFSA will only be considered for merit-based scholarships.

Students will still be strongly encouraged to submit a FAFSA so that they don't self-eliminate from possible financial assistance.
